True story* from my dad's classroom, as reported to us by him this evening:

DAD: You know, the sun is about 93 million miles away. If someone turned off the sun's light switch, we wouldn't even know it for several minutes. [Student raises hand] Yeah?

STUDENT: [truly curious and concerned] Mr. Baldwin, has anyone ever done that?
